Rebecca Whitmire, Founder

My Role

I supervise growth initiatives for the firm, including branding, marketing and art direction; strategy for new roles and co-management of recruiting, staffing, and training; plus community outreach, best practices sharing and work with key advisors. When needed, I participate in consulting, crisis response and problem solving.

After working my way up in the in-home and community services industry, both in Seattle and Alaska, I opened Whitmire in 2003 and steadily grew it into one of the top concierge care providers in Western Washington. In 2016, I partnered with Stefanie Niesz to co-found redpoint Seattle, a specialized firm working with adults 18+ who are struggling to find direction and/or facing difficult life challenges.

Rebecca Whitmire, Before Whitmire

Helping others is in founder Rebecca Whitmire’s DNA. She was raised in a small town; her parents worked as teachers and coaches. While raising Rebecca and her two brothers, her parents fostered more than 11 kids from the DSHS system, including one with special needs. When Rebecca was 12, she lost her mother to cancer. Living through a sudden diagnosis and significant loss within the family system gave Rebecca first-hand experience in the major changes and challenges that accompany serious life events.

While attending the University of Washington, Rebecca had a part-time job assisting a faculty member with quadriplegia and polio, managing his personal care every morning so he could get to work on campus. In 1992, she secured an internship at the National Rehab Hospital in Washington DC; this experience introduced her to rehabilitation, adaptive sports, and therapeutic rehabilitation. Two years later, she moved to New York City to begin a pre-doctoral fellowship at the NYC Rusk Institute Brain Injury Rehabilitation Program working under a team of respected neuropsychologists. This is where Rebecca realized the importance of healing the whole person – a practice she would later use to construct her business.

In 1996, Rebecca joined the Rehab Without Walls team, which served their clients in the home and community in lieu of inpatient rehab. This work took her to Alaska where she ran a private foster home for teenagers with the goal of developing their independent living skills so they could move into an apartment after graduating high school. She later worked at a case management firm specializing in I/DD and physical disabilities, where she supported a full-time caseload of individuals with academic, vocational, and rehabilitation goals. During this time, she gained valuable experience in Special Needs Trusts management, and the idea for Whitmire, the company, was born.
